Dr. David A. Humphreys
is Emeritus Professor of Chemistry at McMaster University, in
Hamilton, Ontario. The recipient of numerous awards, a text book
author, and leader in science education, he is noted for making
science accessible to the public.
He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc.
from the University of London, England, where he taught chemistry before
moving to McMaster in 1965. He received his Ph.D. from McMaster in 1969,
where he remained to become a full Professor of Chemistry.
Dr. Humphreys has won national and
international awards in both science and education. He has been visiting
professor in Beijing, China; Gotoborg, Sweden; Durham, England; and the
HERDSA Fellow in Australia and New Zealand.
He is a Fellow of the Chemical Institute
of Canada, an Honourary Lifetime Fellow of the Canadian Society for
Teaching and Learning in Higher Education, and a former Honourary
President of the Science Teachers Association of Ontario. He is a Fellow
of the American Scientific Affiliation, and Executive Director of the
Canadian Scientific Christian Association.
