More That Matters with William G. Hobbs

There is little doubt that greed has a big affect on our lives.  Whether it’s fast food restaurants offering us bigger sized soft drinks and french fries or company executives caught embezzling millions of dollars it’s all around us.  Advertisers bombard us with messages that encourage us to be greedy.  They tell us that we need more, we deserve better, don’t even pay for it just put it on credit.

If greed were a living organism it would be an ever-hungry monster.  If greed were a person it would be a boss that is never satisfied.  Greed is always a master and never a servant.  It wants all that it doesn’t have and is never happy with what it does have.  It tells you to do crazy things like, "borrow money you can never pay back to buy something you don’t even like," or, "lie and steal to get what you can’t afford," or, "turn celluloid into something that people wear and hope no one stands to close to open flames," or, "kill elephants for their tusks and leave the bodies to rot."  No wonder the Bible says that "the love of money is the root of all evil."

How do you handle greed?
