The common misconception is that the other person does not deserve forgiveness.  We imagine that refusing to forgive we can hurt the individual or group more.  They will undoubtedly be hurt.  What we don't often realize is that refusing to forgive releases a poison that hurts us far more that we can ever hope to hurt them.  Lack of forgiveness has the power to turn us into devils.

On the other hand, a forgiving attitude has within it a healing balm.  When forgiveness is bestowed upon another, it releases a reaction in our own spirit that sets us free from a crushing burden.
