Moving Beyond Matter with Christopher Shennan

It is common to conclude that men of faith are devoid of reason, and that they hold views that cannot be supported in fact.  Considering Isaac Newton's towering intellect, that conclusion could not hold true in his case.  He was both a believer in biblical truth, and a man of science.

All of us, to some degree, are men and women of faith.  We differ only in where we place our faith.  If we did not believe there was a brighter tomorrow, or fulfillment in our future, life would be almost unbearable.  There would be far more suicides than there are.  When does a person commit suicide?  When they lose faith in any meaningful future.  When hope dies.

Some put their faith in science, others in political solutions for a world at war.  People work hardest at those things in which they believe — saving the environment, discovering a wonder drug, or dedicating themselves to relieve the suffering of the poor.  And sometimes their faith is directed in less noble direction — make a lot of money, obtain power and influence over others, or dedicating themselves to their own advancement — regardless of the cost to others.

Isaac Newton was no different to the rest of us.  He just chose to put his faith in the Bible, from which he drew strength and personal fulfilment.

Where are you putting your faith today?
