More That Matters with William G. Hobbs

I few weeks ago I quoted a proverb (Proverbs 25:2) "It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, But the glory of kings is to search out a matter."  That kind of sums up what I'm trying to say here.  On an individual level, we need to start being content with what we have.  In this life there are ways of doing things that work, ways that don't and ways that are unknown - they may work they may not.  This is in every area of life from personal relationships to building rockets.

The problems come when people abandon a way that works well for an unknown way in the hopes that it may work better.  We know communication is important for personal relationships to work, but we still hide our true feels from the ones we love.  We know that exercising regularly and eating a good diet are a proven way to stay healthy, but we want something in a pill.  Our economy is based on the belief that there is always going to be something better and cheaper any day now whether we need it or not.

They call it the "race rat" and that name comes from lab rats that run through mazes searching for food or rewards, while people observe.  Running through the mazes is not the intended life for rats.  They belong in the wild.  But the maze becomes their life, their survival.  They have to run the maze to get the food to live.  So they do it, even though it is unnatural for them.  The human rat race isn't much different.

We go to work and do our jobs to keep a system going the may or may not be working, may or may not be natural, and we never stop to ask why.  Do you ever want to stop?

Jesus says, "Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls."  Matthew 11:28-29.
