Making predictions used to be the domain of prophets and oracles.  In the Bible, prophets were put through similar tests compared to what modern scientific theories are put through.  If a prophet's predictions did not come true the prophet was to be completely disregarded.  Science and prophets; both valued for their ability to tell the future.

Many Biblical prophecies were conditional.  If the people turned to God, then things would go well, if they continued to turn away from God, things would get worse and worse.  Sadly the Bible could be said to be a case study in what happens when people turn away from God.  It's amazing the Bible exists, because most of it is about how most people don't listen to it and to God.

Many scientists today are warning that our consumption habits are damaging the planet.  Our search for nonrenewable resources, like oil, is destroying wildlife habitats and causing the extinction of species.  Our burning of fossil fuels is polluting the air, melting the icecaps, and causing erratic weather patterns.  Most people aren't listening to them either.

Prophets were charged to tell the truth, scientists seek to find the truth, and God reveals Himself to be the truth.
