Sir Isaac Newton in his "Mathematica Principia" wrote: "This most beautiful system of the sun, planets, and comets could only proceed from the counsel and dominion of an intelligent and powerful Being. This Being governs all things, not as the soul of the world, but as Lord over all, and on account of His dominion He is wont to be called Lord God, Universal Ruler." (Newton, 1686). His overriding hypothesis was that God existed and he believe his findings in the area of gravity and calculus added evidence to prove that. In the end science cannot prove or disprove the existence of God anymore than it can prove what you will have for breakfast tomorrow. Science works by performing repeatable experiments and comparing results. When results are consistent with the hypothesis and with the other repeated experiments then a thesis, theory or law is made in conclusion. Sentient beings never give consistent results because they have the ability to choose to give a different response to the same repeated stimulus or stimuli. But if you refused to be tested it doesn't mean you don't exist. This where faith comes in. Deuteronomy 6:16 says not to test God, but Hebrews 11:6 says, "...without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him." To find God you must first start with the hypothesis that He does exist. Why do people reject God's existence? There are many reasons. The main one is that if there is a God we are responsible to Him for our actions. If there isn't then we are responsible to no one. Many have good reason to not want to be held responsible for their actions. But it's like an ostrich with its head in the sand believing if it can't see danger then it doesn't exist. Refusing to believe in God won't make Him disappear if He truly does exist. What is your overriding hypothesis? What are your reasons for holding to that hypothesis? Does it pass the test?
