Even those who doubt the existence of God, are often forced to
acknowledge an empty space in their lives. Most of us, if we are honest, have struggled with a sense of emptiness and purposelessness in our lives. We have tried to fill that empty place with ambition, pride and pleasure. Even doing good, while providing some satisfaction, has failed to fill the deepest longings of the human heart. St. Augustine, who gave his early life over to unrestrained sin and the pursuit of pleasure, eventually identified what was missing in his life. He said, and I paraphrase, "You [God] made us for Yourself, and our heart is restless till it finds its rest in You."* Everyone is free to believe or disbelieve in God. Nevertheless, is St. Augustine right? Is God the only One Who can fill the empty space in the human heart? *(See The Confessions of Augustine Bishop of Hippo - J.M. Dent and Sons, Limited, London - page 1)
