Moving Beyond Matter with Christopher Shennan

When someone calls another a "worm," they are relegating that person to the lowest level of existence they can think of.  It is a term of contempt, implying that the person referred to is of no value at all.  The same is true when someone is called an "insect."

Science teaches us that worms and insects have more value than we think.  They have more brain power than we could ever have imagined.  Think how the severed head of a worm can grow a new body, and, even more amazing, the severed body of a worm can grow a new head.  That's the stuff of science fiction, and it isn't even fiction.  So, calling someone a worm may not be as demeaning a term as one might think.  It may just be a badge you and I could wear with pride.

When next you hear someone called a "worm," take a closer look.  Perhaps that person has more value than you think.
