One of the most fascinating stories in the Bible is that of David and
Goliath. David was little more than a boy, and Goliath was nearly
nine feet tall. Yet David defeated the giant. How did he do
it? If you think about it, David had two things that gave him an advantage: (1) He had skill with a sling. (2) He also knew that trusting his own abilities alone was not enough. He knew that trust in God alone would ensure victory. Oh, Goliath's sword and spear were much more impressive than David's little sling. But David had developed his skill in the school of necessity, where his ability with the sling meant the difference between saving his sheep, or losing them. And it was there, in the long days and nights tending sheep, that David found and developed a relationship with the living God. Joining our small abilities with faith in God, may just be the combination that will lead us all to victory.
