Moving Beyond Matter with Christopher Shennan

The ability science gives us to change the colour of our hair is a boon to many.  In extreme cases, we can match the colour of our hair to the outfit we may be wearing.  But when we apply colour to our hair, have we really changed its colour?  Or, have we merely changed the visible part, that part apparent to the naked eye?

What about the roots?  The roots of our hair remain the same colour, evidenced by the need to reapply the colour frequently.  Otherwise, the natural colour reasserts itself.

It is a great temptation in life to deal only with appearances - how others perceive us.  To some extent that is quite legitimate.  Yet, if we concentrate on appearances only, and neglect the "root" of things, we may end up as shallow - even phony, individuals.

While it is important to "look good" to others, it is absolutely essential that we be good, or our phoniness will make its appearance sooner or later.
